Hello Puppy Families. Thank you so much for your patience with the Sunday Sentinel Updates.
The puppies are doing fantastic and absolutely thriving! Their little personalities are starting to emerge, and playtime has officially turned into roughhousing central. They love tumbling all over each other, full of energy and curiosity. Every time I open the gate to their pens, they rush over and try to sneak out - It's clear they're ready to explore the world beyond their cozy setup, which will state with the introduction to 'recess' in the living room once a day at 5 weeks old.
We've officially moved up to 2 meals a day. We start with one meal of puppy mush to let their tummies adjust, but they've taken to it so well that we've added a second feeding. Now, the moment I walk into the room with a bowl in hand, they all start whining and wagging their tails - clearly, they know what's coming and can not wait for me to put their food down. Their appetites are strong, and I'm thrilled to say they're all eating like champs! I emailed each of you some information, including information on the food they are on and how to order it. Please order early, as it is not sold in stores and there is a 7-10 day lead time for delivery. Let me know if you need any help.
The puppies also have access to their very own water bowl. The mama's bowl is up high enough so they cannot accidently fall in head first. A quick reminder...the puppies have only had filtered or bottled water for their first 8 weeks. I recommend continuing with filtered water for the first couple of months, then slowly introduce to your household water. Please do not give the alkaline water. It will mess up their system and isn't safe for dogs.
They've also been doing amazingly well with their potty trays. I walk in and see little wet spots all over the potty trays, I honestly feel like a proud mama! They are already learning great habits!
Yesterday, I sent a combined fecal sample from each litter to the vet, and I'm happy to report it came back negative. Of course I will continue with our routine deworming just to be safe, but this is such a great start for them.
Shiloh's Guardian Mom came by for a visit today, and it was so sweet to see Shiloh lying next to her, soaking in all the love and attention. It's amazing how much the moms change in just a few short weeks. When the puppies are really young, they barely leave the whelping box. Now they're enjoying their freedom a bit more, coming into the kitchen or living room to relax while I'm in the kitchen or doing paperwork. They instinctually know when it's time to feed their babies, and tend to them as needed. Soon we will be starting the weaning process at 6 weeks old. I cannot believe how fast this is going. Thanks again for following along! I love sharing this process with you!
